Dear Friends in Scouting,
Happy International Volunteer Day!
In a rapidly changing world, Scouting is more relevant than ever, especially for those who need it the most. As we evolve and grow together, volunteering is at the heart of Scouting and connects to this year's theme for International Volunteer Day - Volunteer for an inclusive future. The idea encourages us to play our part in ensuring everyone around us is treated with respect and is able to live a fulfilled life.
As one of the world's largest volunteer-based movements, Scouting wouldn't be possible without the selfless support and dedication of more than five million of our volunteers (yes, this includes you!). Without you, we could not have reached more than 54 million young people today, creating impactful and life-changing experiences for them through our uniquely crafted programmes, events, and activities.
Some of the key achievements of 2019 made possible because of you include:
· Production of the 24th World Scout Jamboree, which brought together 40,000 Scouts and volunteers onsite who were part of making the event an extraordinary success.
· Delivery of WOSM Services through volunteer consultants and working units engaged in the production of resources, training and e-learning around everything from Diversity and Inclusion, to Adults in Scouting and Safe from Harm, which will help us develop and grow Scouting locally.
· Engagement around JOTA-JOTI as the largest worldwide Scout event promoting friendship and global citizenship, involving thousands of Leaders running local activities.
You made all of these and more happen! Thank you for your tireless volunteering, opening a world of opportunities for young people regardless of their background and circumstances.
In 2020, as we move forward into a new decade, we look forward to working collaboratively with all of you to enable 100 million young people to become active citizens creating positive change in their communities and in the world, based on shared values.
We value your commitment to the world's leading educational youth movement. Once again, Happy International Volunteer Day! Thank you for making a difference in the world!
